Climate and environmental changes affect the occurrence of diseases transmitted between animals and humans

The higher air temperatures are very threatening to animals. Several countries in various areas of the world report the negative effect of climate change on their animals. Unfortunately, global warming is leading to the extinction of some animals. Some changes are part of natural evolution (naturogenic), and some are human-caused (anthropogenic). Changes can affect animals directly, such as through a shift in food availability, or indirectly, such as when evolved traits no longer fit the new environment. This literature review examined one type of environmental change, habitat fragmentation. Environmental factors such as temperature and precipitation can cause organisms to enter dormancy or cause animals to hibernate.

If we don’t act on climate now, this list is just the tip of the iceberg of what we can expect in years to come. 2020-10-09 · Animals play an important role in keeping ecosystems balanced, healthy, and strong. And, like humans, animals can respond to an imbalance with extreme behavior that can be harmful to the environment. As stated by the World Association of Zoo and Aquaria in Caring for wildlife (2015) : “we affect animals by destroying their habitats, polluting their environment, introducing invasive species into their ecological systems, building structures in flight-paths, tilling the land, cutting trees, driving cars, burning fuel, and on and on….” Animals affected by climate change. We’ve created this list on how climate change affects certain animal species we know and love today.

The changes we cause are often severe challenges to animals, plants and microbes in nature, from the introduction of pathogens or exotic invasive species to adding toxic substance or excessive nutrients, or causing climatic change. Often several changes occur at once.

Effects of environment change on animals is becoming bleak in some areas as the environment is becoming more volatile. The polar bears are a species that seem to be exceedingly threatened by the changing environment. They rely very heavily on the ice found in the Arctic Ocean. This ice is rapidly disappearing due to the warming of the sea waters.

The changes we cause are often severe challenges to animals, plants and microbes in nature, from the introduction of pathogens or exotic invasive species to adding toxic substance or excessive nutrients, or causing climatic change. Often several changes occur at once. With climate change, snow in some areas is melting earlier than the hares have grown accustomed to, leaving stark white hares exposed in snow-less landscapes. This increased vulnerability might cause declines in hare populations that could lead to implications for other species. Snowshoe hares are critical players in forest ecosystems. VULNERABILITY Very sensitive to temperature changes at all life stages—for example, the sex of baby turtles is determined by the temperature of the sand the eggs are laid in. RESILIENCE High amounts of genetic diversity within the species, which increases their chances of adapting to changing environmental conditions.

Natural disasters – like floods, hurricanes and tornadoes –are occurring more frequently. More animal species are going extinct every year due to the effects of climate change on the ecosystems and habitats they live in. And, climate change affects animal species in some specific ways too.
